Bei maskierten Bands gehen manche Zeitgenossen mittlerweile sofort auf Abwehrposition, denn viel zu häufig steckt hinter den zweiten Gesichtern... keines. Oder Max Mustermann. In der aktuellen Bandinfo liest man dann auch noch solch pseudomysteriösen Kram ablassen wie - Achtung, ich zitiere ungekürzt - <i>“THE WAY OF PURITY doesn't show off with smart or cool band members. No names, no fancy photos, no effigy, no trendy musical influences and no nationality. No compromise, no way to talk or get to know us - we are the fucking NOTHING. We are just a real and concrete message. Most militant bands in the past reached a superior level of strength through their message and faith. THE WAY OF PURITY is different. The message about God intended as nature (animals and the perfection of their creation) is our faith, but the power for THE WAY OF PURITY is a high level of inspiration, self control, and correction of human errors through the inspiration of the animal perfection. Mhm, ja. Laber, Rhabarber, Salbader, Hallelujah!

Aber: Dieses Quartett aus, haha, „nowhere“ (auf Myspace erfahren wir, dass die Band aus Norwegen stammt, ätsch!) bot allerdings bereits mit seinem kontrovers aufgenommenen Debüt „Crosscore“ allerlei Interessantes, und auch der vorliegende, dem bald erscheinenden zweiten Langeisen „Equate“ zuvor kommende Dreitracker ist alles andere als ein Rohrkrepierer.

So richtig einordnen kann man den Kostümball nicht. Death-, Black- und Thrash Metal sind Teil des wilden, wechselhaften Geböllers, aber auch mathematische, meschugge Passagen, Nu Metal, Gothic Metal, Crossover, Deathcore, dezente Elektronik und allerhand andere Derbheiten bilden einzelne Steinchen im bunten Mosaik, welches durch Sängerin Tiril Sk&aring;rdal noch etwas farbenfroher leuchtet.

Gerade für die, die ihre harte Musik gerne unkonventionell und auf Scheuklappen pfeifend konsumieren möchten, dürften THE WAY OF PURITY prima Nahrung liefern, denn bei aller Freakiness vergessen die vier nicht, ihren Songs Aussage zu verleihen. Jedes Stück hat seinen Charakter, seine ganz eigene Stimmung, weiß einen irgendwie dazu zu bringen, zuzuhören.

FAZIT: „Biteback“ ist, wie auch schon „Crosscore“, ein interessantes und mutiges Modell moderner metallischer Musik. Nur das Gedöns außenherum, holy shit...
